… when Presteigne St Andrews gave Alliance Premier League club Bangor City a serious run for its money in the third round of the Welsh Cup at Farrar Road.
Bangor eventually came through 3-0, but they scored two of those goals in the final five minutes as Mike ‘Nobby’ Lockwood’s team gave a really good account of itself.
There is some dispute over the exact date of the match – the photograph in the clubhouse has it as 18 October, but the match programme is dated 17 November, so that is good enough for us!
This match is recalled in much more detail with the launch of the History section of this site, so why not take a look? There is a drop-down menu so click on the ‘Bangor v Presteigne’ link and if, like some of the committee, you are of ‘a certain age’, then you will be able to wallow in nostalgia.
My grateful thanks to George Lancett for the idea, the material and lots of other help in putting this together. If you have recollections of the day, then email them in and there is every chance they will be included when the article is revised, as it inevitably will be over time.
It is hoped to recall other past matches and events over time so if you have any archive material in the loft that you think might be useful, then please let me know.
