Preview of the weekend action

free_kickPresteigne St Andrews will go into their home match with Llanrhaeadr knowing a win would take them to within a point of the visitors in the Spar Mid Wales League table.

After last weekend’s washout when all fixtures were cancelled, there is no obvious game of the day, although Bow Street’s home match with Carno has the makings of a decent fixture.

Aberystwyth Reserves are top on goal difference from Rhayader and the Seasiders face a trip to Newtown Reserves.   Rhayader will fancy their chances of turning the screw with a home match against a Dyffryn Banw side that has blown hot and cold throughout the season so far.

If either of the top two slips up, then third-placed Llansantfraidd Village will fancy their chances of closing the gap to a point as they host bottom side Newbridge.

The biggest fixture in the bottom half will be on Monday 23 November when third-bottom Caersws Reserves will host second-bottom Aberystwyth University, although the College’s recent form suggests they will not be in the lower reaches for long.   Before that game, both face Saturday games in which the College will host Tywyn Bryncrug and Caersws Reserves head to Penparcau.

In the day’s other game struggling Llanfyllin Town face an away day at Dolgellau.

Only one game was played in the Mid Wales League (South) last weekend, and Barry Williams’ Reserves will have noted that their hosts this weekend – Newcastle – were too good for Hay St Marys Reserves who went down 4-1 in south Shropshire.

CP Llanandras will host a Penybont Athletic side that is among their main targets towards the foot of the league and Andy Crowe’s side will fancy its chances of recording that first win of the season.

The leaders Llandrindod Wells Town are among those sides on Central Wales Cup duty – they head to Kerry, so Rhosgoch Rangers will fancy their chances of closing the gap to a point by beating visiting Builth Wednesdays.

Third-placed Builth Wells host Rhayader Town Reserves, while Hay St Marys Reserves will look to bounce back in a home match against Knighton Town.   Radnor Valley will look to climb towards mid-table by beating Talgarth Rovers.

At the foot of the table, after facing their longest trip of the season to Sennybridge was postponed last weekend, the roles will be reversed when St Harmon will host the Breconshire club.

Also on Central Wales Cup duty are Talgarth Town – they will host Llanybbydder, while there are Emrys Morgan Cup ties for Penybont United, who will entertain Llandsantfraidd Reserves, while Newbridge Reserves will host Llandrindod Wells Colts.

Sunday afternoon will see Radnor Valley back in action when they will make the trip to the Racecourse for their third attempt to play Penybont Athletic in their Emrys Morgan Cup tie.
