Presteigne St Andrews returned to Spar Mid Wales League action with a 4-3 win over visiting Aberystwyth Reserves at Llanandras Park.
Tim Broome’s side did it the hard way, though – they were two goals down after the opening 10 minutes, but hit back to win the game courtesy of a Nick Evans goal from a fine cross by Danny Tolley.
Shane Sutton, Joel Leversedge and Gareth Mansell – with what was reportedly a cracking goal on his debut – netted the other Presteigne goals, but not necessarily in that order. To be fair to the chairman, he is trying to sort out the club’s bingo tonight, and his daughter’s christening tomorrow, so can be excused for being a bit frazzled…
CP Llanandras must have thought they were on course for what would surely have been the shock result of the weekend in the Mid Wales League (South) when a Mark Ammonds hat-trick put them 3-0 to the good against visiting Hay St Marys Reserves.
But the visitors then hit back to win the game 4-3 and to further compound Mark’s misery, the chairman told me he wouldn’t allow the hat-trick hero to keep the match ball as the club can’t afford it.
As for the Reserves, their scheduled Emrys Morgan Cup third-round tie at Corris United was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Thanks to Barry Williams for the early-morning text which said there had been heavy rain in Corris overnight (or words to that effect…).
It is likely the game will now be rearranged for next Saturday, 12 December, but this is yet to be confirmed.
There will more detailed reports on the first team and CP Llanandras matches on the team’s respective pages on the site at some stage on either Sunday or Monday.
