With third-placed Aberystwyth Reserves losing at Llanandras Park – that is now no win in seven league matches for Aber – Llanrhaeadr closed the gap on Aber to a point after a 1-0 win at Newtown Reserves.
Tywyn Bryncrug and Bow Street remain firmly in touch after both won at the weekend – Tywyn were 5-1 home victors over Caersws Reserves, but Bow Street were made to work hard before coming through 3-2 in their home game against the bottom side Newbridge. Carno, too, remain upwardly mobile after they saw off Llanfyllin Town 5-1.
Another side that is on the up is Aberystwyth University – after a slow start to the season they maintained their recent progress with a 4-2 home win over Hay St Marys, while Dyffryn Banw shared six goals in their home game against Dolgellau. The Penparcau-Waterloo Rovers game was postponed.
In the Mid Wales League (South), Rhosgoch take over at the top after their 2-0 home win over Rhayader Town Reserves as Llandrindod Wells were on Emrys Morgan Cup duty.
Hay St Marys Reserves’ comeback win at CP Llanandras took them third, while Sennybridge felt the full wrath of a Builth Wells side that was smarting from that home defeat by Presteigne Reserves in their previous outing – Builth ran out 8-0 winners to go fourth, with Presteigne Reserves now fifth.
Knighton Town saw off visiting St Harmon 5-1 at Bryn-y-Castell, all of which means the Swifts are still seeking their first win of the season, while Newcastle and Talgarth Town battled out a 1-1 draw in south Shropshire.
At the bottom, something had to give at Newbridge Reserves where fellow strugglers Builth Wednesdays were the visitors. Wednesdays made it a good day all round for football in Builth by winning 3-1 to climb above CP Llanandras to fourth-bottom in the table.
Among the Emrys Morgan Cup highlights – Penybont Athletic saw off Radnor Valley 6-2 at the Racecourse in their much-postponed second-round tie. In the third round, Llandrindod Town were 5-2 victors at Abermule, but Llandrindod Wells Colts went down 2-1 at Crannog. Bow Street Reserves pushed Talgarth Rovers all the way – the game finished 1-1 after extra time, but Talgarth came through 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out.
