Presteigne St Andrews’ first-team manager Tim Broome has confirmed that Mattie Davies is to leave the club as a change in his work circumstances means he feels unable to commit to the levels needed for first-team football.
Tim said that, as with all players, work has to come first and so Mattie’s decision was very understandable.
“Due to work commitments, Milkers [Mattie] now has to work Saturdays and evenings and cannot dedicate the time required for first team football,” he said.
So he has opted to rejoin his home-town club of Knighton Town,” he added.
Assuming this move is ratified by league officials and the necessary paperwork is done in time, the irony is that Mattie could well make his first appearance back at Knighton in Presteigne.
Knighton Town are due at CP Llanandras on Saturday 12 December, while a fortnight later the Reserves are due at Bryn-y-Castell for a Boxing Day derby game, so Mattie could be seeing quite a lot of his former club in the next few weeks.
In other news, following on from Mark Ammonds’ claim to be the first player to score a hat-trick for each of the club’s three senior teams we have details of another Ammonds trying to go one better.
Chris Ammonds [Stig] has been in touch saying he must hold the record as being the first player to score an own goal when playing for each of the three teams – nice try, Stig, but possibly not one for inclusion on any club honours board of the future..(!)
