Preview of the weekend action…

free_kickWhile Presteigne St Andrews will be looking to add to the woes of Radnorshire rivals Newbridge in the derby game at Llanandras Park, there will be no shortage of action elsewhere in the Spar Mid Wales League.

Leaders Llansantffraid Village head to Carno for the second time in as many weeks and they will know they will be in for a tough game as they only prevailed in last weekend’s League Cup quarter-final tie after a penalty shoot-out.

Aberystwyth Reserves are level on points with Llansantfraidd and they returned to winning ways last weekend.  They will be confident of building on this when they head to struggling Caersws Reserves.

Third-placed Rhayader Town bowed out of the League Cup at the quarter-final stage last weekend so they will be looking to get the show back on the road against visiting Newtown Reserves, while Llanrhaeadr – in fourth – travel to Dyffryn Banw.

Bow Street will be looking to stay in touch when they travel to Dolgellau, while Llanfyllin Town will look to put more daylight between themselves and the bottom of the table by beating visiting Waterloo Rovers.

In the day’s other league game, Tywyn Bryncrug host an Aberystwyth University side that has won its last five matches.

The outstanding League Cup quarter-final between Penparcau and Hay St Marys has the makings of a tight game with the sides being level on points in the league table.

In the Mid Wales League (South) the Presteigne sides could have a major bearing on the top of the table as the Reserves head to Llandrindod Wells, while CP Llanandras face a trip to Builth Wells.

Leaders Rhosgoch Rangers will be odds-on to pick up three points at home to winless St Harmon, while Talgarth Town will also fancy their chances of staying in touch when they host Radnor Valley.

There is a mid-table battle in prospect at Bryn-y-Castell where Knighton Town will host Rhayader Town Reserves, while Penybont United will host Talgarth Rovers, with the other Penybont side – Athletic – heading to Newcastle.

Fourth-placed Hay St Marys Reserves will be keen to capitalise on any slip-ups by the clubs above them when they host Llandrindod Wells Colts, while Newbridge Reserves will be keen to pick up points against visiting Sennybridge.   All the Mid Wales League (South) matches are scheduled to kick off at 2.00pm.
