Presteigne St Andrews FC’s first team continued their build up to the new season with a convincing 8-1 win over Weobley at Llanandras Park on Wednesday, 6 August.
I am grateful to Tom Ammonds for furnishing me with a few details of what went on in this one as I was at a meeting elsewhere so couldn’t make it.
“We fielded more of a settled side in this one and that certainly paid off with Christian Roberts netting his ‘usual’ hat-trick!’, said Tom.
‘The other goals were shared around between Liam Fletcher, Ieuan Crowe, Kieran Lusher and Tom Hooper, while there was an own goal.
“Chad Canning was on target for Weobley, who play their league football in the Herefordshire League, Premier Division so this was a good work out.
“We played well, but the second half was, perhaps, a bit lethargic as we were 5-0 up at half-time and so then opted to try a few things out by switching the formation and players around.
“With the benefit of hindsight, we probably did a bit too much of this, but that is what pre-season is all about,” he added.
This was originally going to be a Reserve-team fixture but, due to the fact the Ressies’ manager Mark Weiland was on holiday, the first-team took the game.
There will be two matches on Saturday, 9 August in which the first team will head to Hinton, while the Reserves will be at home to Builth Wells Reserves.
The Hinton game is due to kick off at 3.00pm, while the Reserves’ match at Llanandras Park will get underway at 2.30pm.
