Presteigne St Andrews FC rounded off their pre-season programme in the best way possible as both the first team and the Reserves won their games.
The first team headed to Hereford for a match against Hinton and ran out 1-0 winners courtesy of a goal from Jamie Blythe.
Tom Ammonds has kindly sent me this report of events at Broomy Hill, while I am grateful to Andy Crowe for the photographs.
“The game was played on a very hard and bobbly pitch while the wind also played played a factor as it was swirling throughout the game,” he said.
“The match itself was very tight with not a great deal of good chances, but it was a very good battle which is just what is required in pre-season.
“We had a couple of half-chances mainly through Duane and Christian going close, while we also restricted Hinton to a lot of long range efforts which Rambo [Anthony Vernalls] dealt with.
“We took the lead courtesy of a cross-cum-shot from Jamie Blythe which deceived the keeper and it flew in over his head, so we led 1-0 at half-time.
“In the second half it was more of the same, really, but we had much more of the football and again Christian and Duane went close but there keeper pulled off two top drawer saves.
“Again, they didn’t create too much of they did it was down to our own mistakes but we saw the game out reasonably well,” he added.
As for the Reserves, they were 6-3 home winners in their final pre-season game in which they saw off the challenge of Builth Wells Reserves at Llanandras Park.
I don’t yet have the details of all the goalscorers in this one, but I am told Shaun Prince scored a hat-trick for Mark Weiland’s side.
