The Spar Mid Wales League season opened this weekend and there were a few first-day surprises that proved reputations count for little.
In the first division, neither of the sides relegated from the Cymru Alliance were able to register three points on the opening day.
Llanrhaeadr went down 4-2 at home to Carno while Penrhyncoch had to settle for a point from a goal-less draw at Montgomery Town.
Llanfair United picked up from where they left off last season with a 3-2 win at Four Crosses, while Machynlleth marked their arrival at this level with a 1-0 home win over Berriew.
The Friday-night opening game was at Llansantffraid Village where the home team was beaten 2-1 at home by Welshpool Town.
The big winners in round one of the second division fixtures were Knighton Town, who put down a marker with a 5-0 victory at Dyffryn Banw.
The league's newcomers experienced very different fortunes – Churchstoke were off to a flier as they saw off Talgarth Town 6-2 at home, but Penybont found Abermule too hot to handle at the Racecourse where the visitors ran out 5-2 victors.
Newbridge made home advantage tell as they stuck four unanswered goals past Bont, but it was a tighter affair at Forest Road where Hay St Marys were 3-2 winners over Kerry.
Presteigne St Andrews' 2-2 result against Builth Wells at Llanandras Park was the only game in the second division to end in a draw.
