Presteigne St Andrews ran out 1-0 winners in their Boxing Day Spar Mid Wales League match at Hay St Marys.
The match was eventually switched to the Forest Road pitch and the kick off brought forward to 2.00pm so as to ensure the game could go ahead and Presteigne took full advantage by taking the three points courtesy of an own goal.
I freely admit I wasn’t at the game myself (work commitments), but the early reports I have had from a variety of sources is that Tim Broome’s side was very good value for the win as they dominated the match for long periods and the margin of victory could easily have been greater.
The fact that it wasn’t was largely down to an excellent showing from the Hay St Marys goalkeeper whom some had down as the man-of-the-match.
It is hoped that we will have a more detailed report as soon as I have tracked down someone who was there, and I will chase Tim for more details at some stage tomorrow (Sunday). Perhaps my normal sources of information were helping Hay christen their new clubhouse facilities after the game as I tried five different mobile numbers for information!
The Reserves’ scheduled derby game at Knighton Town in the Mid Wales League (South) was postponed.
According to Barry, officials at Knighton described the surface at Bryn-y-Castell as being ‘like an ice rink’, so had not option but to call off the game.
