One happy manager after Newbridge win

My thanks to first-team manager Mark Weiland for coming up with the goods in terms of a match report following the 3-1 home win over Newbridge on Saturday, 5 March.

“Newbridge started the better but it was us who took the lead after a corner wasn’t cleared properly and Kai Dayas powered the shot home,” said Mark.

“This then settled us down and, five minutes later, a loose touch from the Newbridge defence allowed Kieran Lusher to nip in and the defender brought him down for a penalty.

“Kai Dayas missed the penalty, but Josh Gardner reacted quickest and smashed in the rebound.

“In the second half, Newbridge came out strongly and we had to defend well after a series of corners and attacks.

“We scored our third which was the best goal of the game – Alan Stocker brought the ball in from wide and curled his shot into the top corner.

“Newbridge pulled one back after we didn’t clear our lines properly and the Newbridge player scored from just inside the box with a well-placed shot into the corner.

“Newbridge then threw everything at us but we again defended really well.

“This was a good win again on a very wet pitch and the three points were very important as it puts a four-point gap between us and Newbridge.

“Fair play to Newbridge – like us, they’ve got a very young side and if they stay together will be a good team in a few years.

“We’ve got a hard game against Kerry next week but we are playing with confidence so we fancy our chances.”
