Preview of the weekend action

Another home game for the first team

Presteigne St Andrews FC will be back into Spar Mid Wales League, second-division action on Saturday, 12 March when they will host Kerry at Llanandras Park in a 2.30pm kick off.

Mark Weiland’s side will have taken heart from the 3-1 home victory over Newbridge last time out, not least because it has put just a little clear blue water between themselves and the bottom three places.

A look towards the foot of the Spar Mid Wales League, division two table shows there is now a 10-point gap between Presteigne and third-bottom Bont, but there is certainly no room for complacency.

All three of the bottom sides have games in hand over Presteigne with second-bottom Dyffryn Banw having played five fewer games so, to a degree, the table isn’t the truest representation of the situation.

But it should be a very interesting afternoon and we are grateful to our club President, Edward Traylor for his kind sponsorship of this match.

As for Kerry, they are very much involved at the pointy end of the division as they look to win promotion to division one for next season.

They are currently second in the table but they will be well aware there is no margin for error for them, either, as they, too, have played more games than those immediately around them.

Kerry are four points behind the leaders, Berriew, but have played three matches more, while third-placed Aberystwyth University are only two points behind this weekend’s visitors, with two games in hand.

So, there will be plenty on this game for both clubs and here’s hoping the first team can rise to the occasion.

There is no game for the Reserves this weekend – they have a blank Saturday before returning to action on Saturday, 19 March when they will head to Newcastle for a Mid Wales League (South) game.

The kick off at Llanandras Park for the first-team game will be at 2.30pm and the admission prices will be the usual £2.50 for adults; £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.
