So, with the excitement of the Cheltenham Festival behind us, and with the Six Nations all but done and dusted ahead of the final round of games, it’s back to the football fayre as another weekend is upon us.

Presteigne St Andrews will host Churchstoke in a Spar Mid Wales League, second-division game at Llanandras Park (Kick off: 2.30pm).

Mark Weiland’s side ran into a very good Kerry side last week when they shipped five goals in the second half in going down to a sobering 7-0 home defeat.

So, there will be a determination within the home team’s camp to get things back on track against a Churchstoke side that is having a very solid season.

Churchstoke are in seventh place in the table with 33 points from 24 games – that’s three places, but 10 points better off than Presteigne.

But they have been far better on their own ground than on their travels this season – they have lost seven of their 12 away games.

The Reserves are back in action this weekend – they will head to Newcastle for their Mid Wales League (South) fixture.

It has been something of a ‘stop-start’ phase of the season for Duane Anning and John Bright’s side due to postponements and Saturdays without a scheduled fixture – in fact, they have played only twice since 23 January.

They haven’t won since 28 November but there are mitigating circumstances, largely down to calls on the first team for Reserve-team players.

Newcastle are usually a handful at this level and were only denied promotion to the Spar Mid Wales League due to the ongoing politics of cross-border participation.

They have a fine away record this season with four wins from five so far on the road.

The kick off for the first-team game at Llanandras Park will be at 2.30pm and the admission prices will be the usual £2.50 for adults; £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.
