My thanks to Duane Anning for forwarding me his thoughts on the Reserves’ 2-2 draw in the Mid Wales League (South) game at Newastle on Saturday, 19 March.
“I thought it was going to be tough game up at Newcastle, especially after losing the last three games,” said Duane.
“I wasn’t holding out a lot of hope but I was wrong as the lads pulled out all the stops and battled well.
“But we never gave up and we had a couple of good chances early on but their keeper kept them in the game.
“We finally broke the deadlock with a bullet of a shot from Merv Stephens so we went in halftime 1-0 up.
“We came out in the second half and battled again only for Newcastle to score the equaliser when they swept from one end of the pitch to other where it fell right for Craig Morris.
“They then got another soon after and we were 2-1 down so it wasn’t looking good.
“There was 10 minutes left when I came on – Josh Griffths threw the ball to me and I put in a shot which the keeper parried but Tom Crichton was on hand to turn it in.
“It was good when the final whistle blew as we had finished at 2-2 and I thought I would take a point up there – no problem.
“The lads were pleased with the showing up there and enjoyed playing so we can take that into our next home game against Brecon Northcote.”
