Johnny Morris 1971-2017

Presteigne St Andrews FC

Presteigne St Andrews FCPresteigne St Andrews FC’ are saddened to learn of the sad passing of one of the club’s former players – Johnny Morris – at the age of only 45.

While Johnny himself would have admitted he was never a leading figure in terms of first-team appearances, he still played his part over a number of seasons at Llanandras Park.

Trevor Owens played alongside Johnny in the Presteigne Colts side of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

“We were never going to break too many records in the Colts, but we played for fun in the Herefordshire League and, as a young lad,  Johnny was a member of that squad,” said Trevor.

“He often used to travel with me to away games and while, as one of the younger ones, Johnny was always fairly quiet, he soon got to enjoy the social side of the game with the rest of us.

“The fact he was so young makes his sudden passing all the more shocking for those of us who played alongside him,” he added.

As with all of us, the football playing days were all too soon behind him but Johnny then swapped the football boots for a set of darts and proved himself very capable in this area.

Everyone connected with Presteigne St Andrews FC would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Johnny’s family and friends.

Johnny’s funeral will take place at St Andrew’s Church in Norton at 11.00am on Saturday, 18 February.

We are told it is family flowers only but any donations will be given to the Welsh Air Ambulance.
