Congratulations to Simon on his selection for the Central Wales FA squad

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s goalkeeper Simon Hamer was chosen for the Central Wales FA’s Select squad for this week’s Regions Cup match against the North West Association in Conwy.

Reports say Simon put in a fine performance in making five or six fine saves but was unable to prevent the Central Wales side in slipping to a 3-2 defeat on the night.

The general feeling from those who were there was that – with a bit of luck on their side – the CWFA squad should have come away with a draw.

Simon is due to make another appearance for the representative squad later this month when they will play a ‘home’ game in Newtown.

While we stand to be corrected on this, the view of those with long-ish associations with the club believe this is the first time in a very long time that a Presteigne player has been honoured in this way.

We apologise for the fact this is something of a retrospective recognition of Simon’s achievement but the truth is that nobody at the club knew until the moment had pretty much passed.

Hopefully we will have a bit more advance warning of the upcoming game in Newtown and, assuming we do, I will then post the details on the website.

Incidentally, if you know of anyone else who has played for the Central Wales FA Select XI in the past, feel free to let us know – we will then update the page accordingly.
