It was reported at the club’s committee meeting on Wednesday 20 January that the HFA Floodlit Youth League could be suspended as clubs are concerned about the pressure on players and pitches caused by the backlog of games due to the bad weather.
League officials have sounded out representatives of each member club for their views and they have been asked to report back by Friday 22 January, but the early indications are that some of the Hereford-based clubs are in favour of calling off the league for this season.
The issue was discussed at Presteigne’s committee meeting where it was felt – with the agreement of the Under 18s manager Trevor Gummer – that under the circumstances the club would back proposals to suspend the league, but they would want the Giantkillers Cup to continue.
There is also a suggestion a League Cup tournament might be introduced in order to ensure Under 18 squads still have some football over the closing months of the season.
Trevor pointed out to the meeting that the vast majority of his players are members of Mid Wales League (South) squads and so they are not going to be short of matches over the coming weeks.
