First team are back with a bang…

The early evidence is that the long lay-off due to the bad weather hasn’t done the first team any harm at all – they returned to Spar Mid Wales League action with a thumping 7-1 win at Llansantffraid Village.

Tim Broome’s side had the game well won by half-time – they led 6-0 at the interval.  If  it is possible to receive a ‘stunned text message’ then the one sent by chairman Alan Randell at the interval was about as close as you get: ‘You won’t believe this but we are winning 6-0 at half-time..'(!)

Well done to Tim and all concerned – a full match report complete with goalscorers etc will appear on the site hopefully on Sunday 24 January.  That was only the fifth time Llansantffaid have lost in three seasons, and their first home defeat of the season.

The Presteigne scorers were: Nick Evans (10 mins and 25 mins); Shane Sutton (32 mins); Glen Tolley (35 mins pen); Joey Price (37 mins); Joel Leversedge (40 mins).

Llansantffraid pulled one back shortly after the break, but Joey Price netted his second on 53 minutes to put the proverbial icing on the cake.

The Reserves came to the end of the road in the Emrys Morgan Cup as they were well beaten 6-0 at Montgomery Town in their fourth-round tie.

It was always likely to be tough in this one as Montgomery went into the game with a record of 13 wins from 13 league games in the Montgomershire Amateur League first division.

CP Llanandras gave Talgarth Town a good run for their money in their Mid Wales League (South) game on the John Beddoes School field before going down 1-0 against the visiting title hopefuls.

The only goal of the game came from a penalty, but CP Llanandras are starting to push the better sides in the division close – prior to the ‘big freeze’ they rattled Knighton Town’s cage, so here’s hoping this points to brighter times ahead for Crowie’s side in the second half of the season.
