My thanks to Tom Ammonds for his views on the Reserves’ 8-2 home win over Knighton Town Reserves on Tuesday, 28 August.
This was Ammo’s take on what must have been an entertaining evening at Llanandras Park.
“Presteigne started the game brightly and within the first few minutes they got the ball in the net but unfortunately Billy Hyett was in an offside position and so the effort was ruled out.
“Play continued in this vain and substitute Ioan Hughes – who replaced the injured Billy Hyett – was to open the scoring for Presteigne with his first touch.
“After he was played through he kept his cool to slot the ball past the on-rushing goalkeeper.
“The game was very open and further goals from Terry Williams – who completed a hat-trick – Tom Lewis and Jordan Griffiths saw Presteigne open out a 6-0 half-time lead over their arch rivals.
“To their credit Knighton had created a few chances which Toby Deveraux dealt with really well.
“The second half was another exciting affair with Presteigne again dominating in the early stages and scoring another two goals with Tom Lewis netting his second of the night and Jack Brindley also finding the net to to make the score 8-0.
“The game then began to get a little feisty as tackles started to fly in.
“The Reserves then took their foot off the gas a little and Knighton scored two unanswered goals to make the final score 8-2.
“In my view, this was a game in which the Reserves could have scored a few more goals but Knighton kept trying to play the right way.
“They are a very young side and – at 6-0 at half-time – they could have folded, so credit to them for this.”
