The MMP with Norman Lloyd league secretary has confirmed that Knighton Town have withdrawn from the league with immediate effect.
Their problems presumably came to a head last weekend when the first team went down 9-0 at home to Berriew and the Reserves were on the wrong end of a 21-0 scoreline at Penybont United.
The sad news was confirmed in a brief statement on the league’s official website.
‘Knighton Town have unfortunately decided to withdraw from Division 1 which means that the league will run with just 15 clubs for the reminder of the season.
‘Their results gained to date with be expunged.
‘The club will continue to play in the Mid Wales League (South) this season hoping for better times to return in the future – we wish them well.’
Presteigne St Andrews FC would echo those sentiments – it’s not good for local football to have clubs dropping out of the league and we hope to see Knighton on their way back soon.
After all, you can’t have local rivalries if one of those rivals is struggling, so here’s hoping Knighton can regroup and come back in the coming years.
