Frustration for the first team in their League Cup tie

Presteigne St Andrews FC bowed out of the MMP with Norman Lloyd League Cup at the first-round stage on Friday, 5 October.

But they gave a good account of themselves in going down 1-0 at home to first division side Llandrindod Wells.

The visitors won the game with around five minutes remaining when a free kick was whipped in from a wide area.

Three players ran across the flight of the ball and did enough to put off Presteigne’s stand-in goalkeeper Mark Ammonds.

The ball eluded everybody and went into the back of the net without anyone touching it and Presteigne appealing for offside.

Some reports suggest the assistant’s flag was initially raised but it was then determined that the three were not interfering with play and so the goal was allowed to stand.

Presteigne had more than played their part in the game up until this point but, once again, this served only to prove that when you are down at the foot of the table nothing runs for you.

Shaun Harris and his squad will be hoping their luck turns on Tuesday, 9 October when they will host Newbridge-on-Wye in a MMP with Norman Lloyd second-division match at Llanandras Park.

The kick off in that one will be at 7.30pm.
