My thanks to the new assistant manager of the Reserves – Tom Ammonds – for forwarding me his thoughts on the side’s fine 5-1 home win over Llanidloes Town Reserves on Friday, 26 October.
“This was an excellent performance from the first whistle,” said Tom.
“The attitude of the players from the moment they they turned up until they left was excellent and this is encouraring after the recent run of form.
“We dominated play throughout the 90 minutes but took us 20 or so minutes to break the deadlock through Louix Gilpin.
“He scored with literally his first touch after a precise through ball by Tim Office.
“Toby Deveraux made a couple of decent saves to preserve out lead but we really should have been out of sight by half-time.
“Tom Lewis doubled our advantage just before the interval to make the half-time team talk a little easier.
“We stressed the importance of the next goal and maintaining possession of the ball and with this we scored within 10 minutes of the restart with Tom getting his second of the night.
“To Llanidloes’ credit they battled on and scored the next goal which was disappointing on our part as we seemed to all want to score.
“This left the defence a little isolated and their winger squeezed a shot under Toby for 3-1.
“We continued to press and scored our fourth through a close-range rocket from Jordan Griffiths and then Jack Brindley gave us even more breathing space by adding a fifth late on.
“We were absolutely delighted for the performance but have stressed that they have now laid down a high marker which they have to maintain.
“We’re entering a phase of the season where tow or three wins on the bounce can improve our chances of a top 4 finish but the building blocks are in place, so long may this continue.”
