It was to prove another frustrating weekend for Presteigne St Andrews FC and Presteigne Reserves as neither side was able to register a win, although it wasn’t for the want of trying.
The first team bowed out of the ER Jenkins Cup at the first-round stage when they went down at home against Rhayader Town.
But it could have been so different had injuries not – again – played a part.
Tom Crichton’s fine run and finish put Presteigne ahead in this one but he was later forced out of the action – one of a number of injuries.
Rhayader were more than good enough to capitalise as they hit back to win the game 3-1 although the general view from those who saw the game was that the first team had actually played pretty well.
There was disappointment for the Reserves who could only manage a draw away at the bottom side, Felindre in their Mid Wales League (South) fixture.
There will be a more detailed report on the game to follow, but suffice to say the loss of John Bright to a red card for two cautions shortly before the interval didn’t help the Ressies’ cause in this one.
Felindre took the lead 10 minutes after the break only for Tom Lewis to level for the Reserves five minutes later.
Alan Stocker and Tom Ammonds’ side then had two goals disallowed while a fierce drive from Tim Office came back off the inside of a post.
So, it finished 1-1 – mixed feelings from the management team as they were disappointed not to take all three points, but philosophical enough to accept that if you play around 50 minutes with only 10 men then a draw isn’t necessarily a bad result.
More detailed reports on the weekend’s proceedings to come as and when I get them.
