My thanks to the Reserves’ assistant manager Tom Ammonds for sending over his thoughts on the Mid Wales League (South) game at Felindre on Saturday, 3 November that ended in a 1-1 draw.
While it was clearly a frustrating afternoon for the Reserves against the division’s basement side, it clearly wasn’t down to any lack of effort and maybe it was one of those days when it just wasn’t to be.
But, well done to Felindre for whom this was their first league point of what has been a tough season so far.
“After our extremely good performance at home to Llanidloes Town Reservse the previous week we were hoping to continue this by beating Felindre but this wasn’t the case,” said Tom.
“We had to shuffle the pack a little due to a couple of late pull outs from the first team and injuries meant we travelled a little short.
“By no means is this an excuse as, for long periods, we dominated the game and had we scored one of a numerous chances in the first half I think the scoreline would have been very different.
“We found ourselves down to 10 men within half an hour with John Bright being shown two yellow card in the space of 5 minutes.
“I don’t think we could have any complaints about them, either but we battled through to half-time with the score at 0-0.
“We stressed the importance of moving the ball a lot quicker but unfortunately for us the pitch didn’t suit our style and Felindre took the lead after about 55 minutes from a corner which we didn’t defend well.
“To our credit we equalised within five minutes through the in-form Tom Lewis after a slick passing move which was richly deserved.
“We continued to press and had two goals disallowed for offside while a Tim Office rocket hit the inside of the post only for the ball to come back out.
“So, all in all, you can look at it both ways – whilst we are disappointed not to win we are happy to have taken a point after going down to 10 men and we still dominated the game.
“Thankfully we have no game this week which should allow the squad to regroup and hopefully shrug off a few of the injuries we have.
“We look forward to Llandrindod away on Saturday, 17 November.”
