A shortage of defenders cost Shaun dear in this one

My thanks to first-team manager Shaun Harris for sending over his considered views on Wednesday afternoon’s defeat at Hay St Mary’s.

Shaun said injuries had again been a major factor going into the game and so, perhaps, the eventual outcome hadn’t been a major surprise.

“We only one recognised defender in the squad I feared it would be a long day,” he said.

“The game got off to a bad start with us going 1-0 down inside the first five minutes.

“We actually settled down after that and might have got ourselves a goal back but, with a new makeshift defence two more errors and slack marking led to Hay’s second and third goals.

“I thought in that first half we looked a beaten side.

“The main thing I asked for at half-time was we should attack and get ourselves on the score sheet.

“The half started well with us scoring the the first goal to make it 3-1.

“Having then hit the crossbar and looking like we might just get back into the game Hay scored on the counter-attack with what was another very soft goal.

“That was ‘game over’ for us in-terms of points but we were still looking for goals having not scored in the last three games.

“Drawing the second half was creditable given that we had so many players unavailable yet again.

“I hope to have Liam Tomkins, Joel Layton, Tom Crichton and possibly Adam Crowe back for the Banw game.”
