Presteigne Reserves were beaten 2-0 by visiting Rhayader Town Reserves in their Mid Wales League (South) fixture at Llanandras Park on Thursday, 22 August.
After the heavy defeat by Brecon Corries in the opening game of the season, this was always going to be a test, but there were reportedly signs that things are heading in the right direction.
My thanks to Tom Ammonds who has forwarded me his thoughts on the game.
“This was a good performance – much improved on Saturday and it was good to have Josh Gardner back in the side.
“Hopefully he will improve when he gets some more game time under his belt.
“Basically, we lost each half 1-0 but the goals were down to two goalkeeping errors but we are still learning as a unit.
“Liam Christopher played very well in goal in the first half while Toby (Devereaux) took over in the second period.
“Unfortunately there are quite a few who didn’t have many minutes in pre- season and it showed that we were majorly lacking in game time.
“But we looked the better side towards the end of the game although we were restricted to long range shots.
“The work rate and effort was superb but we just lacked that cutting edge and final ball to really trouble Rhayader.”
The Reserves have no game scheduled for Saturday, 24 August.
They will return to action on Tuesday, 27 August when they will play another home match in which they will take on Felindre at Llanandras Park in a 7.30pm kick off.
