It’s off to Penparcau for the first team

The games continue to come thick and fast for Presteigne St Andrews FC as they will head to Penparcau for MMP with Norman Lloyd league, second-division fixture on Saturday, 24 August.

This is promising to be another good test as Penparcau have started the season with three straight victories.

They opened up with a 5-2 victory over visiting Machynlleth and followed this up with a 2-0 success over Newbridge-on-Wye.

Given that Newbridge then stuck 16 goals on Knighton Town in the week, this might give some indication as to the kind of task the first team are facing.

In their third outing of the season, Penparcau shaded a close game against Borth in which they ran out 1-0 victors.

In a quirk of the fixtures, this will be Penparcau’s fourth-successive home match so they will have a host of away trips to come later in the season.

Given they scored three at Abermule and four at Rhayader Town, you don’t need to be a footballing genius to work out that Terry Williams’ side knows where the net is, but the major concern is they are shipping too many goals at the other end.

To score seven goals in two away matches and still have nothing to show for their efforts in terms of league points must be hugely frustrating, so the focus presumably will be on tightening things up at the back.

There is no game for the Reserves this weekend – they’ll be back in action on Tuesday, 27 August when they will host Felindre in a 7.30pm kick off at Llanandras Park.
