Round up of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FC…. well, the Saturday action, anyway…!    Presteigne St Andrews picked up a point from a 2-2 draw at home to Penparcau but results elsewhere mean the Llanandras Park club have more ground to make up on the leading clubs, although they do have at least a game in hand on the majority of sides above them.

True, ‘arky remain four points clear of Presteigne, but wins for Carno and Llanrhaeadr took them further clear of the Llanandras Park club – Carno were 2-1 winners at Waterloo Rovers while Llanrhaeadr picked up a fine 3-2 victory at second-placed Bow Street.

Leaders Tywyn Bryncrug enjoyed a thumping 7-1 home win over Llanfyllin Town while Rhayader Town stay snapping at their heels after Rhys Thomas netted four times on his debut in 7-1 home win over struggling Dolgellau.

Llansantffraid Village surprisingly lost ground as they were on the wrong end of a 3-1 result against visiting Dyffryn Banw, but Aberystwyth Reserves ensured they remain in touch after they beat Hay St Marys 2-1 at Park Avenue.

Aberyswyth University maintained their recent excellent form with a 2-0 home win over Newtown Reserves while the basement battle between Caersws Reserves and Newbridge finished all square at one apiece – a result that doesn’t do much good for either side’s hopes of avoiding the drop.

In the Mid Wales League (South), the result of the day came at Talgarth Town where the home side put Radnor Valley to the sword, winning 11-2.

Builth Wells’ 5-0 win at CP Llanandras took them to within two points of the leaders Rhosgoch Rangers who were without a game, but Rhos remain top as Hay St Marys Reserves missed out on the chance to overhaul them as they went down 2-1 at home to Newcastle.

Llandrindod Wells and Talgarth Rovers were both in Emrys Morgan Cup action – to be confirmed, but early reports suggest Llan’dod made it through to the semis, but Talgarth fell to a last-minute winner.

As Presteigne Reserves lost out 3-0 at Penybont United, so Knighton Town also missed out on the chance to put pressure on the leading pack as they lost 3-2 at home to Rhayader Town Reserves.

Sennybridge warmed up for Sunday’s trip to Llanandras Park with 2-0 home win over Newbridge Reserves while bottom club St Harmon slipped to their 16th league defeat in 18 outings when they went down 3-1 at Builth Wednesdays.
