Despite a battling second-half fightback, Presteigne St Andrews FC bowed out of the Central Wales Cup in a 4-3 defeat at Newbridge-on-Wye on Saturday, 16 November.
This was almost the original game of two halves as Presteigne simply left themselves too much to do after the break – although, to be fair, they certainly rattled the home side.
The first 45 minutes was one to forget for Presteigne who found themselves 4-0 down at the interval and staring down the barrel of a potentially very heavy defeat.
But the second half proved a completely different story as a Tom Lewis penalty put Presteigne on the scoresheet, while Alan Stocker was also on target.
A Newbridge own goal had Presteigne back to within one and served to send some degree of concern through the home team’s ranks.
But, despite Terry Williams’ side’s best efforts to take the game to extra time, Newbridge held on for the win.
