Presteigne St Andrews Under 18s went out of the Giantkillers Cup when they were beaten 4-0 by visiting Leominster Minors at Llanandras Park.
Presteigne had a warning shot across the bows early on when a Leominster corner from the right was turned goalwards but Jamie Blythe defending the far post did his job to head the ball off the line.
Leominster scored twice in the first half – taking the lead on 12 minutes and then doubling it when a visiting player did well to get to the byline and pull the ball back for a team-mate to net around the penalty spot.
Ironically, the second goal came from a breakaway after Presteigne could easily have equalised but Leominster counter-attacked quickly following a bout of home-team pressure.
The game-defining moment came in the final minute of the first half when a Leominster attack appeared to have ended as the ball was running harmlessly through to Presteigne keeper Joe Prosser, only for the home-team defender Elian Owen to bring down an attacking player from behind.
Given Elian was the last defender, the referee was left with no option but to produce a red card and Leominster made it 3-0 from the penalty spot in what was the final action of the first half.
The second half was low key with Leominster sensing the home side was going to struggle to get back into the game and Presteigne knowing they were going to be a man short for the second period.
Skipper Danny Ives did his best to try and get things moving in midfield while there was no faulting the work rate of the entire Presteigne side, but they rarely seriously threatened the strong-tackling Leominster defence.
The visitors rounded off their night by netting the fourth goal late in the game which was hard on Joe Prosser in the Presteigne goal who made at least one outstanding save in each half.
Disappointing for the home side but, while the scoreline perhaps flattered Leominster, there can be few doubts that overall the visitors deserved their win.
