The first team ended a three-game losing streak with a very welcome 4-2 win at Llanfyllin Town. John Bird scored twice for Tim Broome’s side, with Joel Layton and Luke Boundford also on target.
Llanfyllin’s goals both came from the penalty spot with Presteigne reportedly having over 60 percent of the play. Shane Sutton played 80 minutes of the game with Tom Goodwin starting, but unfortunately suffered a recurrence of his knee injury and so had to be replaced after only nine minutes.
On a brighter note, Max Powell marked his comeback from injury by playing the full 90 minutes as Presteigne were good value for their victory.
The Reserves were always going to face a tough test in their home match against Talgarth Town, but they more than played their part in a lively encounter at Llanandras Park. In an evenly-contested first half both sides had good chances, but Talgarth’s right back finished neatly with a rising shot past Ryan Sparey to give his side an interval lead.
Talgarth were reduced to 10 men when one of their players was sent off for kicking out at an opponent while on the ground, but this served only to galvanise his team-mates and they upped their game to run out 4-0 winners – it flattered them a bit, but Talgarth do look a decent side that is likely to be up there and challenging come the end of the season.
CP Llanandras went down 2-0 at home to Sennybridge on the John Beddoes School field with both the visitors’ goals coming in the second half. Llanandras more than matched their Breconshire visitors in the first period and, while Sennybridge played much of the first part of the second half in Llanandras territory, it was difficult to see where a goal was going to come from.
In the end, they broke through and then added a second, but CP Llanandras had their chances, with Jamie Blythe hitting both the bar and a post, while he also had a gilt-edged chance with a close-range header in the first period.
