After months of the club being in limbo, it has finally been confirmed that the 2020-21 season for the first team has been cancelled.
To be fair to the FAW and the various governing bodies, it was only fair they give it every chance, but since the turn of the year it had become glaringly obvious to everyone in local football at our level that the season was not going to happen.
In a statement sent to club secretaries, the FAW outlined their proposals for the respective leagues with the Welsh Premier League and Welsh Premier Women’s League scheduled to resume on 5 March and run until 31 May.
The Cymru North and South leagues will resume on 20 March and are scheduled to be completed by 29 May.
The Community game – which covers both Presteigne St Andrews and Presteigne Reserves – has seen all leagues and Area Cups abandoned for the season.
In terms of fees for leagues and Cups, the FAW has basically said it will be a case of ‘stand on’ for the 2021-22 season.
‘Teams that entered competitions in the 2020-21 season, that have either not started, or have started but will not be completed, will now be automatically entered into the equivalent competitions for the 2021/22 season free of charge.’
‘Clubs and leagues that affiliated with either the FAW or an Area Association in the 2020-21 season will not need to pay a fee to affiliate in respect of the 2021/22 season.’
The player registration fees paid is more complicated and more information on this will be published at a later date.
Many players and spectators might not realise that the club has to pay out a sizeable sum of money every year just to register for the various league and cup competitions in which the two teams play, so at least we will not be losing out as these will be carried forward to the 2020-21 season.
