It was to prove a frustrating weekend for both clubs as both CP Llanandras and Presteigne St Andrews FC were beaten.
The action started on Friday evening when CP Llanandras were beaten 6-3 by visiting Hay St Mary’s Reserves in their Mid Wales League (South) fixture.
Manager Bryn Roberts was almost at a loss to explain this defeat as his side dominated possession for long periods of the game but were made to pay for defensive lapses.
Trailing 3-1 at the interval, CP Llanandras would have felt they were still very much in the game but, while they still created plenty of opportunities, Hay’s second string were much more clinical and they ultimately closed out a comfortable win.
Saturday afternoon saw Presteigne St Andrews head to Aberystwyth University for their Emrys Morgan Cup tie.
Unfortunately it was to prove the end of the road for John Haycox’s side as they were beaten 4-1.
Presteigne conceded an early goal in this one and then shipped a second goal from a corner on the stroke of half-time.
Tom Lewis got a goal back for Presteigne in the second half but the students netted twice more to ease through to the next round.
