Presteigne St Andrews FC will make the short trip ‘over the hill’ to take on Knighton Town FC on Saturday, 2 October.
This is a first-round tie in the Central Wales FA Challenge Cup and it will be a good chance for John Haycox’s side to pit itself against our neighbours.
Knighton Town have made a very solid start to their Mid Wales League (East) campaign with a record of five wins and one draw from their seven league matches so far this season.
They don’t appear to have played a league match throughout the whole of September – their last league outing came on Bank Holiday Monday – 30 August – when they slipped to their only defeat of the season.
On that occasion it was Builth Wells who headed home from Bryn-y-Castell with all three points after a two-nil victory.
Goalscoring doesn’t appear to have been an issue for the Robins – they opened the season with a three-one win over Brecon Corries and have since variously put four past Churchstoke, five past Bishops Castle and six past Newtown Wanderers.
So, this will obviously be a very good test of John and his squad but here’s hoping the derby nature of the game will serve to lift Presteigne and ensure they give a good account of themselves.
