Presteigne St Andrews are through to the fourth round of the Central Wales Cup after a comfortable 3-0 home win over Technogroup Welshpool Town at Llanandras Park.
Danny Tolley put Presteigne ahead in the first half, while Luke Boundford then doubled the advantage before the interval.
Shane Sutton made the game safe when he netted in the second half as Presteigne secured a comfortable win without ever really hitting the heights. Among the interested spectators was central midfielder Tom Evans who has become the club’s latest signing after agreeing a move from UWIC.
Congratulations to the Reserves who were 3-0 winners at Knighton Town in the Mid Wales League (South). Ioan Hughes netted twice, with Tom Watkins also on target as Barry Williams’ side kept up the pressure on the league’s leading clubs.
CP Llanandras were beaten 3-2 at home by Talgarth Rovers on the John Beddoes School field, although the match was not without controversy.
The second Talgarth goal looked yards offside (I was in the other half of the field, and it still looked yards off!), although – having said that, the subsequent loss of discipline meant that, on another day, another referee would have had at least two CP players walking for fouls, so maybe these things balance out to a degree.
Corin Jones scored a cracker for CP Llanandras’ opening goal, while Chris ‘Stig’ Ammonds netted their second from the penalty spot.
In other news, the Under 18s’ game against Hinton that was due to be played on Monday 15 February has been put back 24 hours at Hinton’s request, so it will now be played on Tuesday 16 February when the kick off will be at 7.30pm.
The committee meeting that was due to be held on Tuesday night has been postponed and committee members will be informed of the new date by the chairman.
