Presteigne St Andrews FC went down 2-1 in their Mid Wales League (South) game against Talgarth Town on Tuesday, 1 February.
Talgarth were always going to be something of an unknown quantity in that they are a long way behind with their league fixtures, but experience tells us they are usually a competitive side.
The sides went in all square at 1-1 at the break with Lewis Jones on target for Presteigne.
But Talgarth were to take all three points when they notched a second-half winner – this despite what was reportedly a very solid Presteigne performance that, on another night, would surely have seen them take something from the game.
John Haycox’s side will point to the fact they had two goals disallowed in that second period as being an illustration of the part they played in the game.
But it wasn’t to be and Talgarth completed a league double and, in doing so, they moved above Presteigne into fifth place in the league table.
Given their games in hand, Talgarth could yet have a major say in the promotion race in the Mid Wales League (South).
Saturday, 12 February will see Presteigne St Andrews off to Felindre, while there will be football at Llanandras Park where CP Llanandras will host Newcastle.
