CP Llanandras go down at home

CP Llanandras went into their home game against Newcastle on Saturday, 5 February looking to build on their fine point at Penybont United in their previous outing.

A draw at promotion-chasing Penybont would have given everyone in the Llanandras squad a lift and, in the first half, it looked as though they might be able to kick on in this fixture.

My thanks to Roy Simcock for his report on this game.

‘Newcastle came into this after winning four on the bounce and after a very competitive game picked up their fifth.

Newcastle dominated the opening minutes and took the lead from a corner in the 13th minute with a header from Sam Bevan.

CP goalkeeper Liam Christopher kept his side in the game with three top-class saves as Newcastle pushed for a second.

CP started to get a foot hold in the game and just before half time got there reward.

A free kick 35 yards out taken by Tom Hooper was cleared back to him and he unleashed a rocket into the bottom corner.

The second half was an even affair until a 70th-minute corner for Newcastle was turned into our own net.

So, 2-1 to Newcastle at this point, but CP Llanandras tried to get back into the game.

However, another corner in the 84th minute was cleared to the edge of the box and Sam Bevan was there again to put the game out of CP’s reach.

Another good performance for CP Llanandras to build on and the return fixture against second-placed  Penybont this Friday will be another tough test.’
