Presteigne St Andrews FC’s committee held a meeting at The Farmers Inn on Wednesday, 23 February.
We have said that we will publish some of the major points discussed – this will, though, not be a definitive record of what went on at the meeting as, for obvious reasons, some issues have to remain within the committee.
However, where we feel we can share the content of the meeting, we will do so.
Among the items discussed at the most recent meeting were the arrangements for the Otway and Sparey Cups for this season. Committee members were reminded that neither of our sides can enter the Otway Cup as we are not senior clubs, so it was thought an Invitation Otway Cup final would be the way forward.
It was reported six clubs had already expressed an interest in entering the Sparey Cup and it was hoped two more might join them.
There was discussion regarding a possible extension of the training pitch but it was agreed from the outset that we would have to seek the permission of Welsh Water before proceeding with this as it is their land. Assuming these permissions were granted, it was felt there would be some logistical issues with the former bonfire site but that these could be overcome.
The Easter Draw – tickets were out and these were issued to committee members. The draw is to take place in The Farmers Inn at 6.00pm on Easter Sunday.
Signing on fees and fines – it was agreed we need to chase up these as, on paper, it appears as though a fair number of players still owe their fines. However, it was pointed out some now pay in the bar after games and so this money would go into the Social Club account. It was agreed the respective Treasurers would get together and compare notes so we would then have a more accurate picture of just what is owed and by whom.
Defibrillator for the club – this has been purchased and has arrived. It was agreed we needed to finalise just where it was to be installed but it would be inside the clubhouse.
Football issues – there was a long discussion on the way things are going on the field and, once again, it was reported that commitment is a major issue and that this situation isn’t showing any sign of improving. It was also agreed we are not the only local football club with such issues.
While it was accepted this was a wider issue within society, there was a feeling that the situation has to improve as there is little point in the committee working hard to move the club forward if the players aren’t on board. It was stressed that this certainly isn’t the case with all players, but nonetheless it has been an issue for several years.
The Presteigne Charity Cup – also knows as the Nurses’ Cup – the question had been raised as to the whereabout of the trophy and checks were to be made initially in the clubhouse trophy cabinet.
The meeting was declared closed at 8.50pm.
