Presteigne St Andrews FC’s eventful season took another turn in their derby game against Knighton Town Reserves at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 19 March.
There can’t have been many times in recent years when a Presteigne side has scored five times at home – and yet has still lost.
But this was the case in this one as Knighton Town Reserves headed home with all three points after a six-five victory.
A sizeable crowd enjoyed both the sunny conditions and a very good game of football in equal measure, but this will be scant consolation for the home side who will have been frustrated to have taken nothing from the game.
Lewis Jones netted a brace for Presteigne with Josh Pearce, Owen Williams and Tom Lewis also on target – Tom’s goal coming from the penalty spot.
This result means that Knighton Town Reserves have completed a league double over Presteigne this season.
This defeat means Presteigne are going to have to go some if they are to improve on their current eighth place in the Mid Wales League (South) table.
They are seven points behind seventh-placed Felindre and, while they do have three games in hand, clearly it is going to take a major upturn in form if Presteigne are to keep alive their hopes of a mid-table finish.
