Presteigne St Andrews FC came away from Newcastle with a hard-earned point from a 1-1 draw in their Mid Wales League (South) fixture on Saturday, 16 April.
There were huge issues with availability of players in the lead up to this one so credit to those who did travel for what is usually a testing fixture.
In the end, Presteigne headed to south Shropshire with only the bare 11 players and these included Chris Shurmer and club chairman Mark Weiland, both of whom would probably freely admit that their best playing days might well be behind them.
But the side dug in to earn a draw – only the second time this season that they have shared the spoils.
John Haycox’s side will still very much have designs on a mid-table finish and they have the games in hand to do that.
It’s hoped they will have fewer selection issues on Wednesday, 20 April when they will host Hay St Mary’s Reserves at Llanandras Park in a 7.30pm kick off.
