CP Llanandras are out of the Alfred Sparey Cup for this season after they were beaten 6-2 at home by Leominster Town Reserves on Sunday 14 February.
The CP boss Andy Crowe admitted he had to field a mix and match squad for the game as a number of his players were either unavailable or didn’t feel they could manage two games in as many days.
Leominster Town Reserves scored straight from the kick off but those who then feared a St Valentine’s Day massacre were soon made to think again when Manny popped up with the equalising goal.
But Leominster stepped things up a gear and they scored three more before the interval to essentially take the game away from the home side.
CP Llanandras were awarded a penalty early in the second half and Merv Stephens duly obliged from 12 yards to make it 4-2.
But the visitors again raised their game to add a couple more goals before the final whistle to run out 6-2 winners.
Andy Crowe felt they could not argue with the overall result, but he was pleased with the team’s overall effort.
“We had to make a whole lot of changes but fair play to those lads who did play as they stuck to it against a decent Leominster side,” he said.
“They had a number of experienced players in their side – Dylan Barrington and ‘Titch’ among them – so we were always going to be up against it.
“It is likely to be another mix and match side for Thursday night’s trip to Hinton Reserves in the Bucknell Cup as our big game is at home to Newbridge Reserves on Saturday,” he added.
