It was a tough weekend for both Presteigne St Andrews FC and Presteigne Reserves as both were well beaten in their respective matches.

But, despite this, there is a feeling that, if both squads stick together then the good times will come later in the season.

Friday night saw the Reserves open their Mid Wales League (South) season with a trip to Forest Road to take on Hay St Marys Reserves.

This was the Reserves’ first game of the season so it was likely to be a tough ask against a Hay Reserves side that is usually strong at this level.

This was how it proved as the Roy Simock’s Reserves side was beaten seven-one on the night with Nathan Allen coming up with the Ressies’ consolation goal.

With Friday night’s scheduled home match against Felindre now off, the Reserves will return to action on Saturday, 17 September when they will host Newcastle at Llanandras Park.

Saturday saw the first team in action when they took on Tregaron Turfs in the first round of the FAW Amateur Trophy at Llanandras Park.

Again, the opposition proved too strong on the day as Tregaron moved through to the next round of the  Trophy with a comfortable five-one win.

Harry Shaw continued his good start to the season by coming up with the Presteigne goal.

Penybont United’s withdrawal from the MMP Central Wales South means the first team will now have no game on Saturday, 10 September.

But they will return to competitive action under the lights on Tuesday, 13 September when Radnor Valley will be the visitors to Llanandras Park for a 7.30pm kick off.
