There was good news for Presteigne St Andrews FC on Saturday, 1 October as they progressed in the prestigious J Emrys Morgan Cup.
Their first round tie took Corin Jones’ side to Mid Wales League (South) club, St Harmon in a game postponed from the previous week.
Presteigne were to come through the tie by three goals to two, but credit to St Harmon who – despite being the lower-graded side in terms of league statue – made Presteigne work hard for the win.
It was, though, a day that Presteigne goalkeeper Jordan Bailey is likely to remember for some time as he got on the scoresheet.
Apparently Jordan took a free kick from inside his own half and, with the wind at his back, he drove the ball past his opposite number in the St Harmon goal.
Henry Shaw was also on target – he netted twice as Corin’s side booked themselves a second-round home tie against Tregaron Turfs.
This is the same Tregaron Turfs who won five-one in a recent FAW Trophy visit to Llanandras Park, so it will be interesting to see how much progress Corin’s side has made in the interim.
In fact, we are going to get to know Tregaron pretty well in the coming weeks as we will be there for a league game on Saturday, 8 October for what will now become part one of a double-header.
You can make that a triple-header, as they are then due to visit Llanandras Park for a league game on Saturday, 22 October!
That second-round tie in the J Emrys Morgan Cup is scheduled for Saturday, 15 October.
As for the Reserves, they were part of the grand opening of Felindre’s new pitch when the sides met for a Mid Wales League (South) game.
On the day, it’s fair to say Felindre’s new surrounding better suited the home side than Roy Simcock’s Reserves as Felindre ran out seven-one winners.
I don’t yet know who scored for the Reserves in this one but will amend this report when that information comes to hand.
Up next, the Reserves will host St Harmon at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 8 October.
