Battling showing in Radnorshire Cup exit

Presteigne St Andrews FC bowed out of the Radnorshire Cup at the first time of asking when they were beaten five-two by Radnor Valley at Llanandras Park on Wednesday, 16 November.

But there is no doubt that Corin Jones’ side rattled the visitors as Presteigne were twice in front in the tie.

Thanks to assistant manager Chris Shurmer whose summary of the game I have shamelessly taken for this report.

‘The lads put in the shift of the season taking the lead through a Matt Tilson header from a sublime cross from Henry Shaw.

We then conceded a scrappy goal from league high-flyers Radnor Valley all of which it meant it was one-all at half-time.

In the second half we came out with the same intensity, drive and passion.

The pressure on Radnor soon told as we took the lead through a Henry Shaw goal assisted by Josh Pearce.

Then after we’d done loads of graft on a softening pitch sapping our energy Radnor Valley’s quality shone through to make two-all. T

hen a last ditch effort to clear our lines through Liam Jones hit Ryan Jones and ended up in the back of the net to make it three-two to Radnor.

We’d left everything on the pitch and Radnor managed another couple of late goals to make it five-two in the end.

Radnor Valley were worthy winners but Presteigne made them work for it.

This was easily the best performance of the season all over the pitch by far, with Matt Tilson getting my vote for man of the match.

Boys you did Corin, myself and Presteigne St Andrews proud and, if you take that forward on into the rest of the season we’ll be cause a few headaches around the league.’
