Presteigne St Andrews FC were beaten four-nil by visiting Knighton Town in their MMP Mid Wales League derby game on Boxing Day.
The first half showing would have been encouraging for manager Corin Jones as his side held the Robins to a goal-less first 45 minutes.
But it looked as though this was one of those occasions when half-time was the worst thing that happened as Knighton broke the deadlock two minutes after the interval.
They backed that up with a second goal only seven minutes later and there was a fear then that the visitors might well run away with things.
But Presteigne rallied and it wasn’t until 12 minutes from time that the Robins were able to add to their tally.
The visitors sealed the four-nil victory when Jack Hoyle netted his second of the game for Knighton three minutes later.
So, disappointment on the field for Presteigne, but it was to prove a great day off it with a sizeable crowd and good business at both the tea hut and in the bar afterwards.
Our thanks to everyone who attended the game and, in particular, to those volunteers from the club who worked so hard to ensure the day went off smoothly.
