Preview of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FCIn addition to Presteigne St Andrews’ trip to Aberystwyth Reserves, there are a number of other potentially important matches at the top of the Spar Mid Wales League table.

The leaders Tywyn Bryncrug will be taking nothing for granted as they head to rapidly improving Dyffryn Banw and Tywyn will be well aware that any slip up would be likely to see them lose pole position by the end of the day.

Fourth place will host second at Bow Street where Rhayader Town will be the visitors while Penparcau will look to keep up the pressure on the leading clubs by beating visiting Llanfyllin Town.

Carno are the dark horses – with games in hand over all of the other leading contenders they could yet have a major say in the outcome of the title race.  They will host a Llanrhaeadr side that starts the day level on points with them.

Llansantffraid Village are also in the leading pack and they will fancy their chances of maintaining that position when they head to the bottom side Newbridge, while Aberystwyth University will aim to get their season back on course at a Dolgellau side that is also struggling for form.

After a bright start to the season Hay St Marys have found it tougher going of late, so they will be keen to kick start their campaign at Caersws Reserves while Waterloo Rovers will be at home to Newtown Reserves.

In the Mid Wales League (South), the leaders Builth Wells will host Llandrindod Wells Colts knowing they will still be top on Saturday night come what may.   Builth are four points clear of second-placed Rhosgoch Rangers.

Anything other than a Rhos win at home to bottom side St Harmon would be a major shock, while Barry Williams’ Reserves – who start the day in third spot – will be keen to take advantage of any slips by those above them by beating Radnor Valley at Llanandras Park.

Llandrindod Wells’ title challenge has been stop-start due to their excellent run in the Emrys Morgan Cup, so they will be looking to up their challenge by seeing off visiting Newcastle at the Broadway.

Hay St Marys and Knighton Town will both feel they are still in the title race and they will meet at Hay while Talgarth Rovers host Penybont United.   CP Llanandras will welcome Newbridge Reserves to the John Beddoes School field knowing that a home win would see them climb above Newbridge in the battle to stay away from the foot of the division.

Penybont Athletic will welcome Sennybridge to the Racecourse, while in the second round of the League Cup, Rhayader Town Reserves will take on Talgarth Town at the Weirglodd.

On Sunday 21 February, Penybont Athletic will again have home advantage – they will take on Llandrindod Wells Colts while St Harmon face their longest league trip of the season when they will head to Sennybridge.

Then there will be the small matter of the Radnorshire Cup semi-final in which Knighton Town will take on Presteigne St Andrews at Bryn-y-Castell.
