A good day all round…

Presteigne put on the pressure in a seven-goal first half at Aberystwyth Reserves

Saturday 20 February will go down as a good day all round for Presteigne St Andrews and CP Llanandras as there have not been many times this season when all three sides have been unbeaten come Saturday evening.

The first team were involved in an eight-goal thriller at Aberystwyth Reserves in their Spar Mid Wales League game at Park Avenue.  Nick Evans netted a hat-trick while Luke Boundford also found the target for Tim Broome’s side, who return to action on Sunday in the Radnorshire Cup semi-final at Knighton Town.

Nick Evans was substituted in the second half due to injury, while Gareth Mansell has also picked up an injury problem.  There were impressive cameo roles from Tom Evans and Liam Jones when they appeared as second-half substitutes with Tom close to marking his debut with what could have been the winning goal when he hit the cross bar.

Well done to the Reserves who were 4-1 home winners over Radnor Valley in the Mid Wales League (South).   Ryan Stokes scored a hat-trick for Barry’s side while Callum Matthews was also on target.

The Reserves keep up the pressure on the leading sides in the division and – as the sides agreed beforehand to ‘double up’ on this fixture – they are also through to the semi-finals of the Alfred Sparey Cup.

CP Llanandras also have reasons for celebration – Tom Hooper and James Watkins found the net for them in a 2-0 win over visiting Newbridge Reserves.

That result takes them back above Newbridge in the league table and was only the second time this season that ‘Crowie’s’ side has kept a clean sheet.  In case you were wondering (if you were, like me, you need to get out more…) then the first time was in a goal-less draw at St Harmon back in October.

Match reports, comment and photos etc will appear at some stage tomorrow while if you are heading over the Radnorshire Cup semi-final tie, please take a digital camera with you and take a few snaps, remembering afterwards to email your best efforts into the site.
