Carno remain top of the Spar Mid Wales League after they made home advantage count to win the top-of-the-table game against third-placed Aberystwyth Reserves 3-2.
Penparcau kept up the pressure – they are a point behind Carno after they a 3-0 home win over Waterloo Rovers while Rhayader Town are up to third as a result of their 2-1 victory at Bow Street.
Tywyn Bryncrug lost ground when they were held to a 2-2 draw at rapidly improving Newbridge, but Llanrhaeadr took full advantage – they go above Tywyn courtesy of their 4-2 win at struggling Dolgellau.
This means Newbridge have now gone above Dolgellau to lie fourth-bottom – not bad for a side that was almost cut adrift earlier in the season. They have, though, played five games more than Dolgellau.
Hay St Marys arrested their recent slide down the table with a comprehensive 3-0 win at second-bottom Llanfyllin Town while the scheduled game between basement club Caersws Reserves and Llansantffraid Village was postponed.
Dyffryn Banw – who were originally due at Llanandras Park to take on Presteigne St Andrews – were ultimately left kicking their heels as their Central Wales Cup tie against Llanidloes Town was postponed and so will now have to be rearranged.
Into the Mid Wales League (South) and with the derby game at the John Beddoes School field called off due a waterlogged pitch, attention switched to the top of the table where Rhosgoch Rangers took full advantage of their main rivals’ inactivity to hammer visiting Knighton Town 7-1 and go top by two points, although they have played two games more than the side they replaced – Builth Wells.
Builth were in League Cup action – they were 4-2 winners at Rhayader Town Reserves in their semi-final tie and so remain firmly on course to complete a league and cup double. They will meet either Penybont Athletic or Llandrindod Wells in that final – they are due to play their semi-final tie on Saturday 10 April.
Llandrindod Wells were also without a game as they were due to be in Emrys Morgan Cup Final action on Good Friday, but that was called off and will now have to be rearranged. They lose third place to Talgarth Town who beat Newbridge Reserves 3-1 at home while Newcastle also enjoyed a productive day winning 6-1 at Builth Wednesdays.
Hay St Marys Reserves won 5-3 at Radnor Valley while Penybont United added to St Harmon’s problems with a 4-2 away victory at the division’s bottom side.
Sennybridge picked up a useful 3-0 away win at Penybont Athletic while Llandrindod Wells Colts’ scheduled home match against Talgarth Rovers was also called off.
