A strong second-half showing by Newtown Reserves went a long way towards condemning Presteigne St Andrews to a 6-2 defeat in the Friday night game at Latham Park.
Presteigne fell behind in the first period but they were level by half-time courtesy of a Liam Jones goal.
Tim Broome’s side then started the second half in determined fashion and went ahead through Shane Sutton but this was as good as it got as Newtown then took the game away from Presteigne with five second-half goals of their own.
Presteigne chairman Alan Randell said there could be few complaints over the result as Newtown’s second half showing meant they had been good value for their victory.
“They had a smattering for first team players in the side but there is nothing wrong with them doing that as it is not breaking any rules,” he said.
“We did well for the first hour but then they came on strong and were ultimately good value for the victory,” he added.
Newtown Reserves’ win takes them above Hay St Marys and Aberystwyth University into eleventh place in the Spar Mid Wales League – for 24 hours at least, as Hay have a game at Tywyn Bryncrug on Saturday 10 April.
