Presteigne dent a couple of title hopes…

Presteigne teams again played their parts in determining the likely outcome of the title races in both the Spar Mid Wales League and the Mid Wales League (South).

The first team went to Carno where a Sam Williams goal ultimately proved enough for Tim Broome’s side to come away with an excellent victory as they completed a league double over the title hopefuls.

This was Carno’s second successive 1-0 home defeat and means it is advantage Penparcau who will play their game in hand at Aberystwyth University on Monday evening.

In the Mid Wales League (South), Presteigne Reserves drew 1-1 with a Builth Wells side that also has serious designs on winning the league.   Danny Ives was the man on target for Barry Williams’ side when he scored from the penalty spot.

Well done to CP Llanandras who put last weekend’s abject performance against St Harmon firmly behind them when they beat visiting Llandrindod Wells Colts 3-2 at the John Beddoes School field.

Tom Gibbs was the hero of the hour (and a half) here when he came off the bench to score a hat-trick to secure the victory for the home side – well done to the CP squad, as it means my now-traditional interview with manager ‘Crowie’ now need not necessarily be fuelled by a Monday afternoon pint… but there is still every chance it will be.

A reminder there is a Sparey Cup tie at Llanandras Park tomorrow in which Talgarth Town will take on Hay St Marys Reserves when the kick off will be at 2.00pm.

Good luck to the Reserves who will take on Ludlow Town Colts in the Bucknell Cup Final at Bucknell.   A large travelling Presteigne support is anticipated for this one the kick off for which will be at 3.00pm.
